# Lorenzo Dalla Rosa > Aerospace Engineer, MSc, Pisa, Italy. CFD · FEA · Composites. I am a final-year master's student in Aerospace Engineering, dual-enrolled at the University of Pisa and, as an honour student, at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies (admission rate below 5%). I completed my bachelor's degree in less than three years, with 110/110 summa cum laude, in the top 1% of my cohort. My focus is aerodynamics and numerical methods for CFD, alongside FEM and composite structures, with results checked in the wind tunnel and on track. As Head of Aerodynamics at E-Team Squadra Corse, I overhauled the team's CFD set-up, introduced its first cornering and thermal simulations, and held the design event at Formula Student Germany 2025. Before that, I co-founded the first fixed-wing autonomous UAV team at Sant'Anna. ## Links - [Portfolio](https://lorenzodallarosa.com/) - [LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/in/lorenzo-dalla-rosa) - [GitHub](https://github.com/lorenzodallarosa) - [CV (PDF)](https://lorenzodallarosa.com/assets/docs/Lorenzo%20Dalla%20Rosa.pdf) ## Projects - [E-Team Squadra Corse ET-18](https://lorenzodallarosa.com/#et-18-aero-package): Aerodynamic development of E-Team Squadra Corse's ET-18, with a 13.5% downforce increase and a 16% efficiency gain, validated in the wind tunnel and on track. - [Caelus ONE:1 - Autonomous Fixed-Wing UAV](https://lorenzodallarosa.com/#caelus-one): A fully autonomous, carbon-fibre fixed-wing UAV built from scratch by a ten-person student team for the IMechE UAS Challenge. - [Caelus Baff-1 - Autonomous Fixed-Wing UAV](https://lorenzodallarosa.com/#caelus-baff-1): Second-generation IMechE UAS Challenge aircraft: A-tail pusher, D-box composite wing and 30 minutes of continuous autonomous operation. - [Dynamics of an Insulated Rail Joint](https://lorenzodallarosa.com/#rail-joint-dynamics): 3D transient FE model of a moving Hertzian load on an insulated rail joint, with a Python spectral index that detects end-post failure from a 360 to 330 Hz frequency shift. - [Aerodynamics of a VTOL Rotor](https://lorenzodallarosa.com/#vtol-rotor-aerodynamics): My bachelor's thesis at SkyEye Systems: hover CFD of the rotor of a large-scale VTOL UAV, run through an automated Star-CCM+ pipeline to select the most efficient configuration. - [Critical Engine Speed in an Engine Connecting Rod](https://lorenzodallarosa.com/#connecting-rod-critical-speed): Analytical and nonlinear contact FEA prediction of the engine speed at which inertia loads open the big-end joint of a TVR 3.5 L connecting rod: 8415 rpm by FEM against 8770 rpm analytically. - [CFD/CHT Analysis of a Compressor Stage](https://lorenzodallarosa.com/#compressor-stage-cfd): Star-CCM+ CFD and conjugate heat transfer simulations of an axial compressor stage. - [Caelus Quadcopter - IEEE UAV Chase Challenge](https://lorenzodallarosa.com/#caelus-quadcopter): Support structure for the sensor array of the autonomous quadcopter that won 1st place worldwide at the IEEE UAV Chase Challenge 2023. ## Experience - CNC Machining, Naval defence sector supply chain (undisclosed) (10/2026) - Head of Aerodynamics, E-Team Squadra Corse (Formula Student) (09/2025 - 09/2026) - CFD Engineer, E-Team Squadra Corse (Formula Student) (10/2024 - 09/2025) - BS Thesis Researcher, SkyEye Systems (04/2025 - 06/2025) - Co-Founder, Aerodynamics Division Manager and Lead Operations, Fixed-Wing UAV Team, Caelus Sant'Anna (09/2023 - 09/2025) - CAD and Additive Manufacturing, Autonomous Quadcopter Team, Caelus Sant'Anna (01/2023 - 09/2023) ## Education - Master's degree, Aerospace Engineering - Analytical and Computational Methods for Engineering, Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies (09/2022 - Exp. 11/2027) - Master's degree, Aerospace Engineering, University of Pisa (09/2022 - Exp. 11/2027) - Bachelor's degree, Aerospace Engineering, University of Pisa (09/2022 - 07/2025) ## Software Star-CCM+ and Java macros, XFLR5, BetaCAE ANSA, BetaCAE META, ANSYS Mechanical / Workbench, ANSYS MAPDL / APDL, Ansys SpaceClaim, Siemens NX, PX4, ArduPilot, ROS2, Python, MATLAB, C, SolidWorks, ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, ANSYS ACP, Fibersim, Autodesk Fusion 360 and CAM, 3DExperience CATIA, C++, Git, Bash
